Cycle X Outdoor Kitchen
CycleX in Andes commissioned an outdoor kitchen featuring an oven and two cooktops. The oven is a rocket-barrel oven. It is powered by a rocket J-tube where small diameter is fed into the firebox vertically, the heat from the fire is then directed up and around the barrel oven chamber, heating the oven from the outside but not coming into contact with the food. The rocket stoves use the same style of J-tube but the heat from the fire directly hits the bottom of your pot or pan. The appliances are powered by three separate fires.
It all starts with a barrel... and some intensive grinding to remove the residue of the spray foam that had been stored inside.
Building the frame out of pressure treated lumber.
Fabricating an oven chamber within the barrel, and running chimney.
Insulating before laying out bricks for fireboxes.
Laying J-tubes for the oven and rocket stove-tops
Insulating and creating smooth transitions to direct air flow
Barrel needs to be suspended 2" above J-tube outlet
Barrel is set!
